After a strong winter selling season, property experts believe the Melbourne market will see a record number of auctions in spring. The prospect of a more stabilised government after this Saturday’s federal election is also likely to have a positive effect on the property market.

• In our weekend auction summary, Peter Sarmas consider the impact the election will have on the property market, as well as business and consumer confidence.

• Buyer’s advocate Cate Bakos considers buying in Ballarat, and why the regional city presents a great investment opportunity.

• Sleepy and neglected Port Melbourne has transformed itself into one of Melbourne’s premier suburbs.

• The house used in classic comedy film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is on the market again, though the owner has been forced to slash its selling price.

• And the Asian Food Festival has hit Melbourne once again. Restaurants across the city will celebrate the six week event with multicultural buffets, cooking competitions and pop-up markets.
