Edithvale is a quiet seaside suburb in Melbourne's south-east. It partly overlooks the Edithvale Wetlands, a remnant of the Carrum Carrum Swamp, which is home to over 190 species of bird. A bike track borders the wetlands and proves popular with birdwatchers and joggers. Students of Edithvale Primary, the suburb's sole school, are encouraged to be environmentally aware due to their unique location.
Visitors to Edithvale Beach can stroll to a small cluster of shops and cafes such as Ambermoon cafe and Marcel's cafe. Edithvale Station is also found in this precinct. Trains travel to Flinders Street on the Frankston line in forty-five minutes. Residents complete most of their daily shopping in Chelsea and Mordialloc, while Westfield Southland, with its cinema complex and department stores, is twenty minutes away along the Nepean Highway. The city itself can be reached in fifty minutes.
