corio Suburb Profile & Review
Corio is a large residential and industrial suburb located in north Geelong. It is just under an away hour from Melbourne and fifteen minutes from the centre of Geelong. The Corio Shopping Centre features two supermarkets, a Kmart and over 100 specialty stores. There are also a number of fast food outlets, cafes and clothing boutiques.
There are many schools in the Corio area, which adds to its family-friendly appeal. Children under twelve have the option to attend three different primary schools: Corio South, Corio West and St Francis Xavier Catholic Primary School. Corio Bay Senior College caters to older students, while Geelong Grammar School's Middle (5-8) and Senior (10-12) school campus is to the north-east of the suburb. Both boarders and day students are enrolled there.
Due to the creation of the Geelong Bypass, Corio has become a significantly quieter area. Thoroughfare traffic no longer passes through the suburb. Corio Station is on the Geelong Melbourne train route and the journey takes just under an hour.
