Gold was first discovered in Victoria at Warrandyte in 1851. Today, prospectors can still be found panning in Anderson Creek, and goldmining relics are scattered throughout Warrandyte State Park. Those not hunting for gold enjoy canoeing, swimming, picnicking, bushwalking, horse-riding and cycling in the park, which is one of the few remaining areas of natural bushland in Melbourne.

Warrandyte is popular with artists and conservationists due to the sheer number of rivers, creeks and reserves in the area. Pound Bend Reserve is popular for swimming and horse-riding, while Jumping Creek Reserve is a well-known bushwalking spot. The beautiful Yarra Valley wine region is just a short thirty minute drive away.

There are three schools in the region: Warrandyte High School, Andersons Creek Primary School and Warrandyte Primary School. Goldfields Plaza on Warrandyte Road is home to a medical centre, an IGA supermarket, delis and fresh produce stores, while Yarra Street boasts unique, historic cafes and restaurants, galleries and gift stores. An outdoor market is held on the banks of the Yarra River at Stiggants Reserve on the first Saturday of every month. To reach the city, residents use the conveniently accessible Eastern Freeway. The trip takes forty minutes.
